Biography Heinrich Wendel

  • Born in Bremen on 9th March 1915.
  • Studied at the Kunsthochschule Bremen, the Kunstakademie Berlin and the Staatliches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.
  • First engagement in Stendal, 1935-1936.
  • Afterwards worked as a set manager at several german opera houses.
  • Wuppertal (1954-1964).
  • Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf (1964-1980).
  • Performances at, among others: Deutsche Oper, Berlin; Opernhaus, Zürich; Teatro alla Scale, Mailand; Salzburger Festspiele.
  • 1964-1977 photographic documentation of cave art in France and Spain.
  • Heinrich Wendel died on 27th March 1980.
Heinrich Wendel had universal interests and was an exceptionally versatile artist who equally felt at home in art, music, philosophy and history. His photographic work of Ice Age cave art is at present unknown to the public and professional circles.
