Abstract:
Mineralogical and petrological study of the lithic industry materials from different archaeological sites of the Upper Pleistocene in the Banda Atlántica de Cadiz geographical area, are presented. They are fundamentally of a siliceous composition (flint and sandstones) that corresponds to habitats of hunter-gatherers. The technological aspects, mineralogical and petrological analysis, and the typological studies of these industries and the faunal, botanical, and geomorphologic data permitted us to establish a sequence model for this historic period and to infer the technological and social characteristics of the bands, tribes, and societies in a broad geographic zone, that we interpret more as a bridge than as a barrier between Europe and Africa.
