Abstract:
During the last fifteen years, the knowledge of the first human occupations (Lower and Middle Palaeolithic) in the Basque area has experienced important advances, due to the excavation of new deposits and to the application of novel methodological perspectives to those already well-known. In this paper we outline some of the advances that we find more significant, and we insist in the necessity of continuing working in the knowledge of these periods whose field activity is usually not very productive. This the only way we'll reduce the important differential of knowledge that presents our region with regard to all the neighboring areas (Cantabrian, Valley of the Ebro, Iberian North Plateau or Aquitan depression).
