Forbes' Quarry, Gibraltar, was one of the first world sites in which the fossil remains of Homo neanderthalensis were found. Since the discovery in 1848 the site has been largely forgotten by the scientific community. The current geoarchaeological research that is being conducted within the Gibraltar Caves Project is helping in the palaeographic reconstruction of the site of occupation, in determining the age of occupation and in the regeneration and conservation of the site as Natural Heritage.
