Chronological Abstract:

Since the discovery in winter 1952 the discussion about the chronological position of the middle palaeolithic assemblage from Salzgitter-Lebenstedt reflects the difficulties of accurate datings before the last glacial period. On typological arguments Bosinski (1967) creates the Group of Lebenstedt which he dates with Bordes (1992) in the Saalian-Complex. On the other hand the natural sciences argue for a position in the Interpleniglacial arrond 50.000 BP (see Pastoors 2001).
